God loves you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
The “Love Feast,” or Agape Feast, is a practice that traces all the way back to the early church when believers would gather around a common table for a meal, fellowship, and conversation before hearing God’s word proclaimed and celebrating the Eucharist. A millennium and a half later, the Moravians, and later the primitive Methodists, adopted and contextualized the Love Feast as a basis for their early small group movements.
Among the liturgical elements used by those early Methodists was the passing of bread and a cup, accompanied by the phrase:
“God loves you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
We at New Wineskins embrace that attitude as we enter into these final weeks of Advent in preparation for Christmas. We also embrace the incarnational love of Jesus that came into the world through a homeless baby and continues to emerge in and through us as we seek to follow his ways.
Join us Sunday, Dec. 14 at The Marietta Brewing Company for our New Wineskins Christmas Love Feast, where we’ll enjoy a meal together and share stories of incarnation.
Happy Half-Hour: 6:30pm
Conversation Begins: 7:00pm
