We get angry when people wish us “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.” We loudly bemoan the absence of prayer in public schools. We fight against the removal of Christian symbols from the public square. We flock to any movie with a “Christian” theme or title, regardless of how good (or bad) the actual film might be. We elevate any politician, celebrity, or reality show character that has the balls to pray in public to sainthood status. We “like” and “share” countless Facebook memes that declare our Christian values over against those of secular culture.
And we wonder why people outside of our faith want little to do with us.
This week at New Wineskins, we’ll continue our discussion about how Christians are called to interact with people of other faiths with a conversation about the so-called “Culture Wars.” Are followers of Jesus intended to dictate cultural expressions to others? Or are we perhaps called to create compelling cultures that shape and influence the broader culture around us?
Join us Sunday evening, Nov. 9, at The Marietta Brewing Company for a compelling night of good food, good drink, and good conversation.
Happy Half-Hour: 6:30pm
Conversation Begins: 7:00pm
