It’s Our 11th Anniversary!

“Christianity was meant to be a cosmic message of hope for history.”
—Richard Rohr
In many ways, modern Christianity has turned Easter and the message of Jesus’ resurrection into a one-off occurrence meant to allay our fears of death by promising heaven (or threatening hell) for the disembodied soul depending on what one believes about it.
But according to Franciscan friar, author, and public theologian Fr. Richard Rohr, that particular sentiment reveals a fear- and ego-based interpretation of the New Testament narrative.
What if, instead of viewing Jesus’ resurrection as a model for our own postmortem destiny, we truly began to see Jesus as The Christ…the true archetype for all of reality? What if we began to view the crucifixion and resurrection not as transactional, but transformative?
During this Easter season, we’re spending some time hearing from a variety of theological voices about the meaning and significance of resurrection. This week, we’ll engage with a 2016 Easter homily from Fr. Richard that lays out his vision of a universal and cosmic Christ for which resurrection is simply the observable model for all that is.
We hope you’ll join us this Sunday, May 4, in the Virtual Theology Pub powered by Zoom as we celebrate the 11th Anniversary of our community with a conversation about how resurrection invites us into a transformative relationship with reality.
6:00pm ET: Happy Half-Hour (informal meet & greet time)
6:30pm ET: Presentation & conversation begin

Give a gift for our Anniversary!
On May 4, 2014, New Wineskins was launched as a pub theology group in the side room of the Marietta Brewing Company in southeastern Ohio. Today, we’re a vibrant online community with participants from many different parts of the US and the occasional visitor from abroad.
As our community has grown and evolved, so has our vision. Not only do we conduct weekly Zoom gatherings for conversational theology, but we also aim to connect with other folks who share our values for justice and liberation.
The New Wineskins Network is one way we share that connection with affiliates and partners. Through event sponsorships, micro grants, and more, we seek to support organizations and projects that reflect our values. As the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all ships!
