Jan. 5 Gathering: Salt & Light

Epiphany Sunday

As a community dispersed across several US states, it can be difficult (aside from fundraising campaigns) for us to come together to serve our neighbors as a group.

So how do we carry the encouragement from our Sunday night gatherings and social media conversations into the world around us? How can we, as members of the New Wineskins community, have a direct impact on our collective quest for the common good?

Perhaps we can find some direction within the teachings we know as the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5:1-7:29). Even more specifically, if we view Jesus’ “kingdom manifesto” through the lens of his declaration that we are “the salt of the earth … [and] … the light of the world” we might gain some insight into what it means for us to be salt and light in the spaces we occupy socially, culturally, economically, politically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Drawing from the inspiration of Fr. Richard Rohr’s Center for Action and Contemplation, we’ll begin 2025 with a dive into the Sermon on the Mount, beginning with an overview of precisely what it means to be salt and light in a world that often seems devoid of both.

Please join us this Sunday, Jan. 5 in the New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub powered by Zoom for a conversation about salt & light and what it means to us as the New Wineskins community.
