Is the gospel—the so-called “good news” of Jesus—simply a guideline for spirituality and how to get to heaven when we die? Or is the proclamation of the New Testament writers inherently political?
This week at New Wineskins we’ll wrap up our series on Faith & Politics with a discussion about the very political nature of the Jesus narratives as captured in the gospel writings of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as well as the political undertones of Paul and other epistle authors.
Our discussion video this week features author and historian Diana Butler Bass in a segment from Homebrewed Christianity’s recent online course, “Faith & Politics For the Rest of Us.” In the video, Bass discusses the political realities of Jesus’ world and the role of tradition in how we wrestle with the political nature of the gospel in our contemporary context.
