Bible Stories for Grown-Ups Postscript
For the past six weeks we’ve been reading Josh Scott’s Bible Stories for Grown-Ups together as a community. We’ve learned how a deeply contextual reading of the stories many of us learned as children helps us view ourselves and others more compassionately as we understand the societal, cultural, political, and economic realities of the people who first lived, told, heard, and later read those stories.
So what do we do with it?
This week at New Wineskins we’ll discuss the postscript of Bible Stories for Grown-Ups, “Where Do We Go From Here?” and ask ourselves that very question: Where do we, as a faith community, go with these new interpretive lenses the book presents for us? Some key issues to consider might include:
- How do we define what the Bible actually is — and isn’t?
- How do we view the “authority” of scripture?
- How do we counter unhelpful cultural narratives built around more legalistic interpretations?
Join us this Sunday, June 11, in the New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub powered by Zoom as we talk about what we’ve learned from our book study and where we go from here.
6:00pm ET: Happy Half-Hour (informal meet & greet time)
