July 24 Gathering: Close but Different

“If one person fails and suffers, it’s everyone’s business”

—Rowan Williams

What are the distinctives of a community? What makes “community” different than just a gathering of individuals?

This week at New Wineskins, we’ll continue our summer series on community and connectedness with a conversation about how community and diversity go hand-in-hand within a broader culture that too often sacrifices unity at the altar of uniformity.

Our video from The Work of the People* this week features former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams discussing how the early Pauline Christians within the Roman Empire offered a thoroughly alternative community to the prevailing status quo by bringing together people of different racial, gender, and socioeconomic stations around a common table with the common goal of loving each other counter-culturally.

Join us this Sunday, July 24, in our New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub for a conversation about how our differences can actually make us closer and form the foundations of a loving, trusting community.
