June 3 Gathering: Christ on the Psych Ward

“In Christ on the Psych Ward, David Finnegan-Hosey does something the Church has had difficulty doing regarding mental illness; he opens up the blinds and he lets the light in. David’s story is compelling, his voice clear, his insight profound, and his subject matter critical. A book like this is long overdue, both in and outside the Church. It will save lives.”

— John Pavlovitz, author of A Bigger Table: Building Messy, Authentic, and Hopeful Spiritual Community

It’s a special treat for our New Wineskins community to welcome David Finnegan-Hosey, author of Christ on the Psych Ward, to our June 3 Gathering.

According to David’s website, he currently serves as a chaplain-in-residence at Georgetown University, having previously worked with campus ministries at American University and the University of Hawaii. He holds an M.Div from Wesley Theological Seminary and a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. He is certified by Mental Health First Aid USA to provide initial help to people experiencing depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use disorders.

In 2011, David was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after a series of psychiatric hospitalizations. He now speaks and writes about the intersections among mental illness, mental health, and faith. You can read more of his writing on his blog, Foolish Hosey. David lives in Washington, DC with his wife Leigh and their dog Penny Lane.

Please plan to join us this Sunday, June 3, in the 167 Side Room of the Marietta Brewing Company to meet David and hear more about his new book. Plus, we’ll discuss the various roles the church can play in the mental health of our congregants and communities.

Happy Half-Hour: 6:30pm

Conversation Begins: 7:00pm

*Please note: we’ll take up a voluntary collection to help David offset his travel expenses. Copies of Christ on the Psych Ward will be available for sale.
