Reign of Christ Sunday
The Sunday before Advent has traditionally been celebrated as “Christ the King” or “Reign of Christ” Sunday. It’s language that’s rich with monarchial and colonialist overtones that many of us in the Progressive stream of Christianity are finding untenable.
But what if we could reclaim that language? What if, rather than viewing Jesus as an all-powerful potentate, we could see him as the embodiment of the Christ spirit in a way that inspires and mobilizes us to love everything everywhere?
What if Christ’s reign is not so much over us as it is within us?
Please join us this Sunday, Nov. 26 in the New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub powered by Zoom as we end our liturgical year with a conversation about how universalizing the Christ gives a whole new meaning to the concept of the Reign of Christ.

Advent 2023: Awaiting the Universal Christ
How do we view the incarnation through the lens of the Universal Christ? How does the particularity of Jesus of Nazareth open us to a cosmic view of who God is and who we are? This Advent, we’ll examine the concept of the Universal Christ and how Jesus illuminates the sacredness and connectedness of all things through the themes of Wisdom, Incarnation, Particularity, and Unitivity through a series of videos by The Work Of The People featuring Fr. Richard Rohr.
Dec. 3: Wisdom — How setting big mysteries on small stages gives us insight into the non-dualistic mind of the Christ.
Dec. 10: Incarnation — How seeing the universal through the particular open us to a peace that transcends non-conflict
Dec. 17: Particularity — How Mary’s Magnifcat reveals the divine hidden within the ordinary
Dec. 24: Unitivity — How the theory of quantum entanglement helps us see the universality of the Christ. (Pre-recorded so you can engage at your convenience)
Dec. 31: No Gathering — Celebrate the New Year with your friends and family, and join us again Jan. 7!
