July 9 Gathering: Original Love

.How often do we find ourselves being frustrated or angry with those who use their Christian faith to belittle, exclude, or even attack people who don’t agree with their particular set of beliefs? It’s hard not to become exasperated in the face of what seems like such an obvious disconnect between the loving way of Jesus and the very unloving behavior of many of his followers.

How do we extend the same kind of compassion and mercy to folks who wield their Christianity as a weapon as we do to those who are so often their victims?

Could the problem be that we—as a species—simply aren’t yet mature enough to resolve these big existential issues?

Franciscan sister and neurophysicist Ilia Delio thinks that might be precisely where we find ourselves in these times. This week at New Wineskins, we’ll hear what she has to say about our current place in the evolution of humanity and how a perspective that centers love as the creative force of the universe might give us hope for the times in which we live.

Join us this Sunday, July 9, in the New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub powered by Zoom for a conversation about how a doctrine of original love opens the doors to a deeper, richer experience of what it means to be human.

Next Sunday: Quarterly Community Sabbath

(No gathering July 16)

Once every 3 months we take a break from our weekly gatherings to provide space for rest and renewal. It’s one of the spiritual practices that are part of the rhythm of our community.

There will be no gathering next Sunday, July 16.

We’ll reconvene for our regular Sunday night gatherings on July 23 with an old-fashioned open forum Q&A Gathering…bring your questions and observations about faith, religion, spirituality and how they intersect with culture and society in our world today.

Our next Community Sabbath will be in October.
