We often think of a “cruciform” (cross-shaped) life as having a vertical dimension that represents our relationship with the Divine and a horizontal dimension that represents our relationship with each other. It’s a convenient and simple metaphor to understand.
But what if a truly cruciform life has less to do with mapping our relationships and more to do with holding the tensions that pull us away from ourselves? What if we’re not just managing the various stressors in our lives, but using them to more clearly define which crosses we carry are true and which are false…often those imposed upon us by religious systems and structures.
This week at New Wineskins we’ll continue to hear from various and diverse voices on the meaning of the cross and resurrection as we walk through this Easter season together. Our discussion video this week features theologian and author Parker Palmer talking about how we can turn those tensions we feel into the kind of creative energy we need not just to survive, but thrive.

On May 4, 2014, New Wineskins was launched as a pub theology group in the side room of the Marietta Brewing Company in southeastern Ohio. Today, we’re a vibrant online community with participants from many different parts of the US and the occasional visitor from abroad.
