Awakening: Week 3

Who is God?

Or is “who” even the right question? Maybe “what” or “where” come closer…or maybe the question itself stretches the ability of language.

Still, the question is important. Because, if we’re honest, the way we answer it reveals everything about how we perceive and interact with the world around us. And as we’ve seen far too often, a small and limited view of “God” usually brings a small and limited view of not just humanity, but reality itself.

This week at New Wineskins, we’ll continue our Epiphany series on Awakening by taking a deep dive into how we perceive the divine, what language we use to describe it, and how removing our limitations from our understanding might free us to live more and more generously and compassionately in the world…especially in response to oppression and injustice.

Please join us this Sunday, Jan. 21, in the New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub powered by Zoom for a conversation about awakening to divine presence. This week’s discussion video from The Work of the People features theologian and philosopher Richard Beck examining the ways that our perceptions and definitions of “God” influence the ways we see ourselves, others, and the world & universe all around us.
