“Liturgy” is one of those church-y words that often causes us to roll our eyes and retreat into whatever other thoughts might be occupying our minds when we hear it. For some, it can evoke past hurts and traumas inflicted by institutional religion in the name of emotional manipulation and behavior management.

But the word “liturgy” itself simply means “the work of the people.” So whatever we do, when we do it together in the context of community, is our liturgy.

Last week during our discussion about why we participate in New Wineskins and why our community exists, we talked briefly about how our weekly conversations are sacred and how that shapes our collective theology of worship.

This week, we’re going to take that idea a step further to talk about how authentic relational dialogue is at the heart of our own liturgical pattern, and how a dialogical liturgy rooted in spiritual practices informs the way we arrange our lives and the way we relate to the various spaces we occupy.
