July 4 Gathering: De-colonizing Christianity

From the Doctrine of Discovery to White Christian Nationalism, America‘s history is soaked with a colonialist version of Christianity. And when July 4 lands on a Sunday as it does this year, nowhere is that notion more starkly on display than in many of our churches.

Let’s face it. The church has done immense harm in the world by colonizing those to whom it deemed itself to be in mission. So how do we begin to undo the damage that’s been done?

This week at New Wineskins we’ll have a frank Independence Day discussion about decolonizing Christianity and the part we as individuals and communities have to play in it.

Join us this Sunday, July 4, in the New Wineskins Virtual Theology Pub (powered by Zoom) for a conversation about how we can be agents of decolonizing our faith.

6:00pm: Happy Half-Hour (informal meet & greet time)
6:30pm: Presentation & conversation begins
