Oct. 25 Gathering: Ableism with Chris Wylie

How often have you been kept out of a building because of a physical barrier? When was the last time you couldn’t cross a street, access a restroom, or sit comfortably at a restaurant table?

In the same ways that we all carry hidden biases around issues of race and culture, we also do so around our relative abilities, normalizing that which we take for granted.

And while ableism is something we don’t talk much about, it is just one more barrier to justice that we must learn to dismantle.

This week at New Wineskins we will talk about disability narratives in the Bible, ableism, and the church with our friend, Rev. Chris Wylie. Chris is a disabled United Methodist pastor, disability advocate, and writer with a passion for all things creative. The heart of his ministry is with people on the margins, and he believes social justice is key to the future of the church.

Join us this Sunday, Oct. 25, in our New Wineskins Virtual Pub to learn more about ableism and how we can expand our inclusivity to those with disabilities.

Zoom connection opens at 6:00pm for Happy Half-Hour socializing.
Conversation starts at 6:30pm.
